Song Loc explains customs in Vietnam

Below are customs in Vietnam. I think you should know before you come to my country.

In Vietnam, it is polite to use just the first name. Sometimes in more formal situations, you should use the word “ Ong ” it is like “ Mr ” before a man’s name and “ ba ” it is like “ Mrs ” or “ Miss ” before a woman’s name.

It is usual to shake hands when you meet a friend or a person who you haven’t met a long time. Normally, if you meet a friend or person who is the same as age as you, you can say “ hello” or “ hi ”.

It’s difficult in Vietnam for a woman to go out if she doesn't have a reason, and she can’t go out with a man if her family doesn’t accept him. When they go out on a date, the man should pay for the activity that they did.

When you come to a house, you should take your shoes off. At mealtime in Vietnam, people usually use chopsticks and a small bowl. Food is put in a dish or a big bowl. We share food together, that is polite in Vietnam.
