Steven explains acceptable behaviour for couples in China

I am from Beijing. It is the capital of china. China has many customs in different places. When addressing a Chinese people it is polite to use just their full name whatever what the relationship between the two people. In more formal situations you should use the word ‘Nin’. This is like ‘you’ but it is very euphemistic and is used for addressing both men and women. Couples should be careful how they behave. Chinese couples usually hold hands in public, but it is not acceptable for couples to kiss in public. The face is the most important in Chinese culture. It is not respectful to touch another person’s face. Remember, if you are invited to someone’s home it is important to take your shoes off. By the way, in China, people tend to serve food in dishes in the centre of the table. Everyone helps themselves, using chopsticks.

And Spring Festival is the most important celebration in China. If you have a chance, the spring festival is not to be missed. You will see everyone wearing red clothes on the street and saying ‘Happy New Year’ to each other. During the Spring Festival, we often cook dumplings and share it in the big family. Children are very happy because they will get money from grandparents and aunts or whoever has a good job in the family. And then fireworks are important, too. Chinese people use fireworks to chase away unlucky things and welcome the happy matters. You will enjoy the travel!
